Is ‘After the Flood’ returning for season 3? Everything we know so far

ITV’s After The Flood has proven to be an incredible British crime drama with a storyline that tackles police corruption, personal loss, and a community’s ability to carry on by using the struggle between DC Joanna Marshall and the divided Waterside Police Force as the basis for its creation. Following the shocking events as revealed in early 2026 (The Final Episode of Season 2), fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation of Season 3, which will offer new cases for investigators to solve a variety of emotional displays; a twist of a surprise on top of another; and total injustice that remains unresolved due to the events culminating in Ed Green’s suicide at the end of season 2!

As of February 2026, ITV has yet to announce the renewal of After the Flood for its third season. After the second season concluded on February 2, 2026, all episodes of the series have been dropped on ITVX, and the conclusion of the first season aired on ITV.

In general, ITV does not make renewals for returning dramas until weeks or months after a season concludes. The time frame for making renewals depends on several factors, including viewership data, audience engagement, critical response, etc. In addition, ITV has also announced replacement programming for the Sunday-night time slot that AFT will occupy; this indicates that ITV does not currently have any plans to renew AFT for the following season; however, renewal could occur later.

Currently, any time frames regarding the production of season 3 AFT remain unknown and will depend on ITV’s internal evaluation process.

After the Flood Season 3 Expected Cast

The cast and crew have reached out to the producers asking for a season three, despite ITV not green-lighting the show yet. The lead, Sophie Rundle (Jo Marshall), has confirmed in interviews that there is still “life in the series” due to the ensemble cast structure and the potential to continue building off the storylines.

Co-stars Matt Stokoe and Nicholas Gleaves also expressed similar sentiments about unresolved storylines and character arcs left to explore. These statements do not mean anything official is coming because there are currently no contracts or plans for production.

After the Flood Season 3 Potential Plot

The second season concluded with significant plot developments and character-based narratives being left unfinished, which provides discussion among fans of the potential direction of the next season, since the centre of the show is a small community.

Given what will happen in a possible third season, it is possible that the third season will deal with the effects of what has transpired during the second season’s finale, but any direction in terms of a storyline has not yet been established and will not be established until ITV decides on renewals.

Currently, After the Flood is awaiting a decision from ITV. The strong ratings from viewers and the passion shown by its fan base, along with the excitement of its cast, are contributing factors for After the Flood, but no decision has been made yet by ITV. If renewed, an announcement will most likely occur once ITV has conducted a post-season review.
