UN Secretary General praised India’s economy… said – this is a suitable place for AI Summit
New Delhi. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that India is a ‘highly successful’ emerging economy with influence in global affairs and is the perfect venue for an AI Summit. Speaking at the ‘India-AI Impact Summit 2026’, Guterres stressed that artificial intelligence (AI) should benefit the entire world, not just This should be a privilege reserved only for the developed countries or the two superpowers.
He said, ‘I heartily congratulate India for organizing this summit. It is extremely important that the development of AI is for the benefit of everyone and that the countries of the ‘Global South’ also become a part of the benefits of AI. The ‘Global South’ refers to countries often referred to as developing, least developed or underdeveloped, located primarily in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
This high-level event, scheduled to be held from 16 to 20 February, will be the first AI summit to be held in a country in the ‘Global South’ and is based on the three guiding principles of ‘People, Planet and Progress’. Guterres will travel to India to attend the summit. He said that “it is completely unacceptable that AI should be the prerogative of only the most developed countries”.
This comment of Guterres is clearly being considered focused on America and China. Guterres said, “It is extremely important that artificial intelligence becomes a universal tool for the benefit of mankind.” He said, ‘India’s role today is as a highly successful emerging economy and it is playing an increasingly important role not only in the global economy but also in global affairs. India is the perfect place to organize this summit and also to ensure that there is an in-depth discussion on AI with its immense potential and all its risks because AI belongs to the entire world and not just a few.’
