The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed him as the brand ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2026. Before the match, Rohit reached the stadium with the trophy. ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta and former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram were also present with him.

This scene was before the start of the match, when Rohit was returning out after placing the trophy on the field. After the video surfaced, various reactions were seen on social media, especially because the Indian team was following the no handshake policy on the field.

Former captain met the players before the match

Before the match, Rohit Sharma reached R Premadasa Stadium and met the players in the Indian dugout and encouraged them. It is noteworthy that this is the first edition of T20 World Cup in which Rohit is not participating as a player. He had participated in all the T20 World Cup editions played before this. In the year 2024, under his captaincy, India also won the T20 World Cup title.

If we talk about the match, Team India performed brilliantly under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav. Batting first, India scored 175 runs. In reply, Pakistan team was reduced to 114 runs. India won by 61 runs and confirmed its place in the Super-8.
