Stir in Assam Congress before elections, Ripun Bora’s resignation, political turmoil intensifies

digital desk- Congress has suffered a major setback before the upcoming assembly elections in Assam. Senior party leader and former state president Ripun Bora has resigned from all posts including primary membership of Congress. His move has increased the stir in the politics of the state, especially at a time when election activity is about to intensify. Ripun Bora has been one of the prominent faces of Assam Congress. He became the state president in 2016 and headed the organization for about five years. He resigned from the post of president after the defeat of Congress in the 2021 assembly elections. He has also been a Rajya Sabha MP and was elected MLA for the first time in 2001. He was also a minister in two terms of the Tarun Gogoi government.

Leaving Congress and joining TMC in 2022

There were ups and downs in the political journey. In 2022, he left Congress and joined TMC, but returned to Congress again in 2024. However, after his return he did not seem very active. In such a situation, his resignation is being considered important for the Congress and it is feared that it will cause electoral loss to the party. Here, the phase of allegations and counter-allegations has also intensified in the state politics. Heated statements continue between Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.

Attacking without evidence- Gaurav Gogoi

First allegations were made against the CM regarding land, then in response Sarma made serious allegations against Gogoi and his family. Gogoi hit back saying the CM was making personal attacks without evidence. Congress leaders have also targeted the CM and said that if the allegations have substance then why legal action was not taken. This entire incident has further heated up the politics of Assam. There is also talk that Ripun Bora may move to another party, possibly BJP, in future. However, there is no official confirmation on this yet.
