Foreign Minister Balanand Sharma will represent Nepal in the swearing-in ceremony of the new government of Bangladesh.

Kathmandu. Nepal will be represented by Foreign Minister Balanand Sharma at the swearing-in ceremony of the new government of Bangladesh. A delegation led by him will leave for Dhaka today. The delegation also includes Foreign Secretary Amrit Rai. The decision to send the Foreign Minister was taken in the cabinet meeting held in Kathmandu today.

Government spokesperson and Home Minister Omprakash Aryal said that Foreign Minister Sharma is going to leave for Dhaka today itself and after the general elections held in Bangladesh on February 12, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tariq Rahman will take oath as the Prime Minister.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held on Tuesday. BNP has elected Tariq Rahman as the leader of the parliamentary party. Rehman is the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. His party has secured two-thirds majority in the elections.

Chief Advisor to the interim government Mohammad Yunus had sent invitations to heads of governments of India, China, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Turkey, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bhutan, including Nepal, to attend the swearing-in ceremony. From the Indian side, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will attend the ceremony.
