Former Assam Congress President Bhupen Borah withdrew his resignation, decision taken after meeting Gaurav Gogoi

Former Assam Congress state president Bhupen Borah put an end to the ongoing speculation in political circles by withdrawing his sudden resignation within a few hours on Monday. He took this decision after talking to current Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi.

Resignation was sent to the high command

Earlier in the day, Borah himself had confirmed that he had sent his resignation to the party high command. However, at that time he did not say anything openly on the reasons behind this. While talking to journalists, Borah refrained from commenting in detail on his decision and said that he will give detailed information about it when the appropriate time comes.

He said that he has sent his resignation formally and does not consider it necessary to discuss it further at the moment. He indicated that some issues going on within the party were responsible for his action, which started with the incidents related to Behali.

What’s the point about the party?

Borah also indicated that he was dissatisfied with the decision-making process within the party. He especially expressed displeasure over the lack of transparency and coordination in decisions related to Majuli Yatra. He said that if the party is not able to decide which leaders should be included in a program then there is a need to seriously consider the future of the organization.

After resigning, Borah was approached by various political parties and leaders. He told that MLA Akhil Gogoi talked to him and said that his doors are open, while other leaders also contacted him. He also told that the Congress high command also communicated with him.

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave a statement that BJP’s doors are open for Bhupen Borah. He said that if Borah joins BJP, the party will try to make him contest from a safe seat.

However, after talking to Gaurav Gogoi, Borah withdrew his resignation and indicated that for now he will remain in Congress. It is noteworthy that Borah has been the state president of Assam Congress from 2021 to 2025 and has also been an MLA in the state twice. His resignation and then return has once again exposed the internal politics and organizational challenges of Assam Congress.
