New Delhi. A major turning point has come amid the controversy over leadership in Assam Congress. Former state president Bhupen Bora has withdrawn his resignation. AICC State Incharge Jitendra Singh claimed that Bhupen Bora decided to withdraw his resignation after talks with the party leadership. With this, the ongoing confusion in the organization has ended for the time being.

Read :- Before Assam elections, Congress got a big shock, former state president Bhupen Bora resigned from the party.

In the morning he sent his resignation to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Reports said she had written about being “ignored” and not getting due respect in the party, but after day-long meetings and persuasion with leaders, she decided to withdraw her resignation.

Congress leaders’ efforts to persuade

As soon as the news of resignation came out, many senior Congress leaders reached his house in Guwahati. Current Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, other party leaders and representatives of allies met him. After this, Bora took a U-turn and decided to remain in the party. According to sources, the party leadership assured him of giving him an important role in the organization.

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted sharply to this entire incident. He had said that Bhupen Bora is the last Hindu leader of Assam Congress who was neither an MLA nor a minister. His resignation gives a symbolic message that a person coming from an ordinary family cannot move forward in Congress.

Sarma accused the Congress of appeasement politics and said he welcomed Bora’s resignation. However, he clarified that Bora has not approached him to join BJP. He also said that he would go to Bora’s house in the evening. Sarma claimed that the situation of Congress in Assam is very bad and 4–5 MLAs may also leave the party in the coming days. He also said that at present, in view of the Rajya Sabha elections, BJP is in no hurry to include anyone.

Know what is the political meaning?

Bhupen Bora was the President of Assam Congress from 2021 to 2025. He is credited with strengthening the organization at the grassroots level. His resignation and then return has indicated that there is definitely dissatisfaction within the party, but for the time being the breakdown has been averted. This development is considered important for both Congress and BJP before the Assam Assembly elections.
