Hearing of Salman Khan black buck case postponed again, what will be the next step?

The black buck hunting case related to Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been pending in the court for a long time. The appeals filed in this much-discussed case were to be heard in the Rajasthan High Court, but once again it has been postponed. The bench of Justice Baljinder Singh Sandhu recused itself from hearing these appeals, after which the matter has been sent to another bench. Now this case will be presented before the Chief Justice, where it will be decided in which bench the further hearing will be held. At present, hearing was proposed on two appeals, which are now pending.

Co-accused Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre have already been acquitted in this case. The state government has filed ‘Leave to Appeal’ against this, which is currently pending in the High Court. This case was registered in Luni police station in 1998. It is alleged that black buck was hunted on the intervening night of 1 and 2 October 1998. In this case, a case was registered against Salman Khan and other artists and Dushyant Singh.

What is the matter?

Action was taken against Salman Khan under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act. On April 5, 2018, the Jodhpur trial court sentenced Salman to five years in prison, while the other accused were acquitted. After the sentence, Salman filed an appeal in the District and Sessions Court, Jodhpur and got bail. Later, a petition was filed to transfer his appeal to the High Court, which was accepted and the case was transferred to the High Court on 21 March 2022.
