Meerut Metro: 22nd February is going to be a very special day for the people of Meerut. After a long wait, the city is going to get the gift of modern Meerut Metro. On this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the remaining part of Delhi Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor as well as Meerut Metro. This is not just a transport project but is being considered a big step towards the development of Western Uttar Pradesh.
The picture of the city is expected to change once Meerut Metro is started. The time taken for daily travel will reduce, traffic pressure will reduce and people will get safe and fast public transport.
Complete information about 23 kilometer long corridor
The first phase of Meerut Metro has been prepared from Modipuram to Meerut South. This entire corridor is about 23 kilometers long. It will start from Modipuram Depot station and the last station will be Meerut South. A total of 13 stations have been built on this entire route, which will connect the major areas of the city.
This project started in the year 2019 and is now ready for passengers after almost seven years. This is being considered a major infrastructure upgrade for Meerut.
Direct connection with Namo Bharat
The most special thing about Meerut Metro is that it will run on the track of Namo Bharat train only. This means that there will be better coordination between the two trains. During its journey, the Metro will also stop at those stations where stations have been built for NaMo Bharat.
However, keeping in mind the convenience and safety of passengers, separate platforms have been made at these stations for Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro. This will make crowd management easier.
Passengers who want to go directly to Delhi from Modipuram or other parts of Meerut will be able to board the Namo Bharat train by alighting at Meerut South station. This connectivity will prove to be a big relief for the commuters who commute daily.
What are the 13 stations of Meerut Metro?
Meerut Metro running from Modipuram depot will reach Modipuram station first. After this, it will reach Meerut South station via Meerut North, Daurli, MES Colony, Begumpul, Bhainsali, Meerut Central, Brahmpuri, Shatabdi Nagar, Rithani, Partapur respectively.
Of these, Modipuram, Begumpul, Shatabdi Nagar and Meerut South are the stations where Namo Bharat train will also stop. These stations have been specifically developed as interchanges.
speed of 120 kilometers per hour
The maximum speed of Meerut Metro will be 120 kilometers per hour. This speed makes it one of the fastest metro services in Uttar Pradesh. Higher speed means that passengers will save time and even long distances can be covered in less time.
About 700 passengers will be able to travel together in a metro train. To handle the rush during peak hours, the interval of trains has been kept at only 7 minutes. This means passengers will not have to wait much.
timetable and operating system
Meerut Metro will run from 6 am to 10 pm from Monday to Saturday. Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers on Sunday, the services will start from 8 am and will be available till 10 pm.
In this way, timing has been fixed for all office going employees, students and businessmen. In future, if the number of passengers increases, the timing and frequency can also be changed.
Special facilities for passengers
Modern facilities have been provided at all the stations of Meerut Metro. Provision of clean drinking water, washrooms and special arrangements have been made for disabled passengers. Facilities like lifts and escalators will also be helpful for the elderly and children.
Keeping security in mind, CCTV cameras have been installed in stations and trains. Apart from this, trained staff will be present at all times to help the passengers.
The second phase will also start soon
This is the first phase of Meerut Metro. After its successful operation, work will be started on about 13 km long section in the second phase. With this, more areas of the city will be connected to the metro network. After the completion of the second phase, the public transport system of Meerut is expected to be completely changed. This will reduce dependence on private vehicles and also reduce pollution.
Sixth metro city of Uttar Pradesh
With the launch of Meerut Metro, Meerut will become the sixth city in Uttar Pradesh where metro service will be available. Earlier, metro services have started in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Noida and Ghaziabad.
Big achievement of NCRTC
Meerut Metro Project has been prepared by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation. This is the same organization which is also developing the Delhi Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor. The model of running Namo Bharat and Metro on the same track has been implemented on such a large scale for the first time in the country. This can also become an example for other cities in future.
