Supreme Court Advises Caution on Pre-Marital Relationships: Supreme Court Has advised caution regarding pre-marital relationships during an important hearing. The court said that before marriage, the boy and the girl are ‘complete strangers’ to each other. Therefore, in such cases, steps should be taken very thoughtfully.
This comment came during the hearing of a case in which a person physical relations under the pretext of marriage Has been accused of making. The accused had demanded bail. The bench of Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was hearing this case.
What did the complaining woman say?
On behalf of the complainant woman, it was said that both of them had met on a matrimonial website in 2022. It is alleged that with the promise of marriage, the accused had relations several times in Delhi and later in Dubai. The woman also claims that the accused recorded personal videos without permission and threatened to make them viral. Later she came to know that the accused married someone else in Punjab in January 2024.
What did the court say after the hearing?
During the hearing, the court said that the case seems to be of a consensual relationship. Justice Nagarathna remarked that if the woman was so strict about pre-marital relations, she should not have gone abroad. The court advised both the parties to explore the option of compromise (mediation) and said that in such cases, instead of giving direct punishment, the possibility of compromise should be seen.
The court asked the accused party to also consider options like giving compensation to the woman. Now the next hearing of this case will be on Wednesday, where the opinions of both the parties will be recorded.
