Punjab: Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann showed the power of the people to the drug smugglers in the oath ceremony of the Village Defense Committee organized for ‘War Against Drugs’ in Killi Chahlan village of Moga. Addressing the crowd of thousands gathered at the venue, Arvind Kejriwal said that Akali Dal, BJP and Congress had drowned Punjab in intoxication.

Ever since AAP government came to power, it is making Punjab drug free. Therefore, people will have to remember their misdeeds and not give them even a single vote. Otherwise Punjab will again drown in drugs. For the first time in the history of Punjab, there is an AAP government which is chasing drug sellers and arresting them and putting them in jail.

Launch of ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign

Therefore, there was a lot of fear among the people and no one was ready to come forward and give information about drug smugglers.

People felt that they would be intimidated and their families would be harassed. He said that more than 2,000 kg of drugs have been seized in the last one year. Bulldozers have been used on the big bungalows of drug sellers and big smugglers have been caught, before whom people used to tremble. Due to this action people have started having confidence.

Arvind Kejriwal said that now people are confident that Aam Aadmi Party and Bhagwant Mann government will not be afraid of anyone. For the first time, a fierce war against drugs has been waged in Punjab. Now fear has started disappearing from the minds of the public and trust in the government and police has started increasing. He said that Village Defense Committees (VDCs) are being formed in every pind and every ward across Punjab.

Respected people of that ward or community, retired teachers, retired army officers, youth and sarpanch etc. are being included in the committee. The first task of the committee is to provide information about the people selling and buying drugs in that village or ward.

Secret app for VDC members

Arvind Kejriwal said that many people fear that if they give information about drug smugglers, they will kill or harass their family. That’s why the Punjab government has created an app. Every member of VDC has that app in his phone. When people give information on that app, their identity will be kept completely secret. Therefore there is no need to be afraid.

Till now many VDCs have given information and many members have said that now they are not afraid, because the entire village is with them. The second task of the committee is to take the people suffering from drug addiction in the village to the nearby center for treatment. So that they can get out of addiction. The committee will have to take all the steps to make its community drug free.

Government support and strictness on police

Arvind Kejriwal said that the government will provide all facilities or resources to VDC. Police, administration and Chief Minister are with him. The information given in the app directly reaches the Chief Minister’s office and action is taken on it. If a policeman does good work at the local level, he will get a reward. But if any policeman is found to be associated with drug addicts, he will not be spared under any circumstances and strict action will be taken against him.

VDC should not be limited to only 10 members, but gradually the entire village should be included in it. If the entire village is found then no one will have the courage to sell drugs.

Sports grounds, employment and saving youth from drugs.

Arvind Kejriwal said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is building a wonderful playground in every village and every village. Cricket, volleyball and football can be played in these grounds. Sports equipment will also be given to Pind. Children who have come out of drug addiction should not get into drug addiction again. Those children have to be taken towards sports.

The government is arranging employment for those youth. Bhagwant Mann government has so far given 60 thousand government jobs without bribe and without recommendation. More employment arrangements are being made. Employment has to be arranged for everyone, for which the entire government is engaged.

Attack on old parties and appeal not to vote

Arvind Kejriwal said that we have to go to every village and tell each and every family who were the people who had pushed Punjab into intoxication. When there were governments of Akali Dal, BJP and Congress, the entire Punjab and every family was drowned in drugs. These parties have ruined the youth of Punjab, every family and the future of Punjab.

Every family will have to be told that now they should not vote for these parties even by mistake, otherwise Punjab will again drown in drugs. For the first time, a party has come which is chasing drug sellers, arresting them and putting them in jail.

Property of drug smugglers seized

Arvind Kejriwal said that the AAP government is demolishing houses and bungalows of drug sellers. Their properties and bank accounts are being confiscated. By the grace of God, such a government has come. It is the responsibility of VDC to go door to door and tell people that now they should not vote for other parties under any circumstances. In the end, he wished everyone and said that very soon Punjab will become Rangla Punjab and drug free Punjab.

Plan to keep school children away from drugs

To keep school children away from drugs, parents will be made aware through teachers-counselors – Bhagwant Singh Mann. Bhagwant Mann said on Punjab Government’s Chief Minister Health Scheme providing free treatment of Rs 10 lakh, the opponents are finding faults in it also. The government has made an agreement with hospitals, not a single penny will be charged to the public for areas up to Rs 10 lakh. Punjab government will bear all the expenses. Punjab is the land of players like Milkha Singh, Dara Singh, Harmanpreet Kaur and Shubhman Gill, but previous governments had made it famous for vaccines and syringes.

Focus on schools in the second phase against drugs

Bhagwant Mann said that in the second phase of the war against drugs, the focus will now be on schools. Parents will be made aware through teachers and counselors to keep an eye on their children. The company and behavior of children will be monitored so that the coming generation can be protected from drugs and new customers are not born.

He said that a report has come to me that the number of people getting passports made in Punjab has reduced, because now the youth are getting employment in Punjab itself. The government has given 63 thousand government jobs, which were given without recommendation and bribe. When the government builds hospitals and schools, there will be a need for staff, which will provide employment.
