‘Congress’ snatched away in Karnataka; High Court canceled the election, one mistake turned the tables after 3 years!
Karnataka Chuanv 2023: In a major blow to the Congress party, the Karnataka High Court has canceled the 2023 election of MLA SN Subba Reddy from Bagepalli Assembly seat. The court has declared the result invalid on the grounds of irregularities found in the nomination and concealment of property information. After this decision, the stir in the political circles has intensified.
A bench headed by Justice MGS Kamal made it clear that Subba Reddy had hidden important information related to assets and liabilities in his election affidavit. The court has considered this as a violation of election rules and inappropriate conduct. The petition was filed by his rival and BJP candidate C. Muniraju, who alleged deliberate concealment of facts in the nomination.
Who will become the MLA of Bagepalli?
Accepting the petition, the High Court has canceled the election of Subba Reddy, however has not declared BJP candidate Muniraju as the elected candidate. The court said that further action will now be taken by the Election Commission as per law.
High Court gave order to EC
The court, while informing the Election Commission and the Secretary of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly of the order, directed that all the privileges and facilities received by Subba Reddy as an MLA be terminated with immediate effect. During the hearing, Subba Reddy’s lawyer had sought a stay on the decision to appeal in the Supreme Court, which was rejected by the High Court and flatly refused to grant interim relief.
BJP candidate was defeated
In the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, Congress’s SN Subba Reddy won from Bagepalli constituency by defeating BJP candidate Muniraju. After the defeat, the BJP candidate had demanded that Subba Reddy’s nomination be declared invalid.

He alleged that there were many mistakes in the nomination papers filed by SN Subba Reddy. He had hidden his property information and submitted a fake certificate. Moreover, the tax dues of the properties were also not mentioned in the certificate. On the basis of these arguments the court has given this strict decision.
