Song festival organized in Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra, Song Mahotsav 2026: A unique union of folk culture and tradition will soon be seen in Haryana’s religious place Kurukshetra. The Nayab Saini government of the state has taken an important step to revive and promote the Haryanvi folk theater genre ‘Sang’.

The government has planned a special event in honor of famous artist Dhanpat Singh Sangi. Under this event, a five-day grand ‘Song Mahotsav’ will be organized from 23rd to 27th February at Kalakari Bhawan, Kurukshetra, which will provide an opportunity to the new generation to connect with their cultural roots.

As per the announcement of Chief Minister Nayab Saini, a prestigious award ceremony and cultural festival will be organized in the memory of Dhanpat Singh Sangi this year. Haryana Arts Council has started preparations for this. This festival will be organized from 23rd to 27th February in the auditorium of Bharat Muni Rangashala in Kalakari Bhawan, Kurukshetra. During this period, prominent musicians and folk artists of the state will be present on one stage.

District Information and Public Relations Officer Dr. Narendra Singh said that the Song Festival is an important part of the cultural heritage of Haryana. In this, artists perform live folk tales through music, dance and dialogues. These presentations are not just a means of entertainment, but also convey the message of social morality and victory of goodness through mythological stories.

In this festival, song parties symbolizing Haryanvi culture will showcase their art. The timing of the event will be from 10 am to 6 pm. In the festival, song presentations lasting three to five hours along with drum playing and high-pitched folk singing will keep the audience engaged. Sangi artistes will introduce people to the glorious history of the state by live staging of historical and mythological characters like Raja Harishchandra, Lilo-Chaman and Bhakta Prahlad.
