Great fight again? India-Pakistan will face each other! Learn the equation
The Indian cricket team registered a spectacular victory by defeating its arch-rival Pakistan cricket team by 61 runs in the league match of T20 World Cup 2026. The Indian team has confirmed its place in the Super 8 stage, while the way forward for Pakistan now depends on the match against Namibia. Now the biggest question in the minds of cricket fans is whether another match between India and Pakistan is possible in this tournament.
How will the competition be between the two teams?
As per the current tournament format, the two teams can meet again only if they progress beyond the Super 8s and reach the semi-finals or final. In the T20 World Cup 2026, a total of 20 teams have been divided into four groups A, B, C and D. Each group consists of five teams and the top two teams from each group enter the Super 8. After this, the eight teams that reach the Super 8 are divided into two different groups, where each team plays one match each against the other three teams of its group. The top two teams from these two groups reach the semi-finals and then the final match is played between the winning teams.
Under the pre-seeding system of ICC, India has been given X1 seed and Pakistan has been given Y3 seed. Due to this arrangement both the teams will be placed in different groups in Super 8. Since in Super 8, teams play only the teams of their group. Therefore, competition between India and Pakistan will not be possible in this phase.
However, if both the teams finish in the top two positions in their respective Super 8 groups and win the semi-finals, then they may face each other in the final. Before this, both the teams had come face to face only once in the 2007 T20 World Cup final, where India had won.
India vs South Africa
India’s first match in the Super 8 stage will be against South Africa on 22 February in Ahmedabad. After this, there will be a clash with Australia or Zimbabwe in Chennai on 26th February and a match will be played against West Indies in Kolkata on 1st March. The aim of the Indian team will be to continue its excellent performance and reach the semi-finals and then the title.
