Fireworks light up the skies as Vietnam welcomes Year of the Horse

Downtown Ho Chi Minh City lights up on Lunar New Year’s Eve

About two hours before midnight, buildings and major streets in central Ho Chi Minh City were brightly illuminated in anticipation of the Year of the Horse.

On New Year’s Eve, the Saigon River waterbus service increased operations around the city center to meet rising demand from passengers sightseeing and waiting to welcome the new year.

Nguyen Kim Toan, director of Thuong Nhat Co., Ltd. (Saigon Waterbus), said services were boosted by about 50% compared to normal days, with departures running at roughly 15-minute intervals to accommodate higher demand. Boats operated between central piers including Bach Dang, Thu Thiem and Binh An.

Alongside the river bus, several large restaurant cruises on the Saigon River were lavishly decorated, offering guests dining and entertainment experiences as they waited for midnight in the heart of the city.
