Ravi Shastri urges Abhishek Sharma to be patient amid lean patch

Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri has urged Abhishek Sharma to give himself some time to recover from his recent lean patch. This comes after Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a four-ball duck during the India vs Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo. It marked his second consecutive duck in the tournament and his third in the last five T20I innings. The world’s No. 1-ranked T20I batter hasn’t scored a run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Abhishek Sharma’s last T20I half-century came against New Zealand in Guwahati.

While speaking to Sanjana Ganesan, Ravi Shastri voiced his confidence that Abhishek Sharma would soon recover from his poor form. He suggested that Sharma needs to be patient and give himself more time to settle into his innings.

According to Shastri, ordinary scores are a regular occurrence in cricket, and once Abhishek gets into his stride, he will have no trouble converting dot balls into boundaries and sixes.

“I believe he’s due for a big score, but he just needs to give himself some more time. These things happen, and it’s easy to lose form, but he just has to be patient until he gets back to his best. Turning those dot balls into boundaries and sixes later on won’t be a challenge for him,” Shastri said.

Shastri praised Ishan Kishan for his brilliant form, stating that scoring close to a strike rate of 200 on the difficult Colombo surface was truly remarkable.

“He’s playing like a dream. To strike at nearly 200 on that Colombo pitch is unbelievable. No batter found it easy, whether Indian or Pakistani, as the ball was stopping. For him to strike the way he did, and what impressed me most was how quickly he read the conditions,” Shastri added.
