Supreme Court On Himanta Biswa Sarma: ‘This has become a trend…you are breaking the courage of the High Court’, Supreme Court reprimanded Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma by refusing to hear petitions against him

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Monday clearly refused to hear the petitions related to hate speech against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Supreme Court asked those who filed petitions against the Assam CM to approach the Guwahati High Court and also reprimanded them. A demand was made from the bench headed by CJI Surya Kant to file an FIR against Himanta Biswa Sarma and form an SIT for investigation.

During the hearing on the petitions filed against Himanta Biswa Sarma, the bench headed by CJI Surya Kant made serious remarks as to why the petitioners did not go to the Gauhati High Court. The bench said that the authority of the High Court should not be underestimated. The CJI bench showed strictness and said that there is a disturbing trend that every case ends here. You are breaking the courage of the High Court. On this, the lawyer of the petitioners, Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the Supreme Court can use its understanding on this case and insisted on forming a SIT. Singhvi alleged that Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is breaking the morale of the entire community.

He also demanded from the bench that it be sent to another High Court. On this the CJI reprimanded and said that just because all the senior lawyers are here, the Supreme Court cannot be an easy place for shopping. Chief Justice Surya Kant said that there are good lawyers there too. He said that this is a deliberate attempt to weaken the authority of the High Court. CJI said that sending him to another High Court instead of Guwahati is a serious allegation. Which I completely reject. He said that I have to take care of the judicial administration across the country. This matter is of a video released by Assam BJP. In which CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was shown firing on Muslims. Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that he was not aware of the existence of such a video. At the same time, petitions were filed against this in the Supreme Court.
