Pathum Nissanka took a brilliant catch in the tournament

T20 World Cup 2026: Exciting match between Australia and Sri Lanka

New Delhi: The 30th match of the T20 World Cup 2026 was played between Australia and Sri Lanka, where Australia, batting first, scored 181 runs in 20 overs. Australia’s openers provided an excellent start to the team, and at one point it looked as if the team would cross 200 runs. But the Sri Lankan spin bowlers changed the course of the match. After 10 overs, Sri Lankan bowlers made a brilliant comeback and turned the match in their favor with excellent fielding.

Australia’s explosive start

Australia’s innings had a very strong start. Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh added 104 runs in 51 balls for the first wicket. Travis Head scored 56 runs in just 29 balls, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. Mitchell Marsh scored 54 runs in 27 balls and hit 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Sri Lanka got the target of 182 runs

However, after a fast start, Australia’s innings faltered a bit. Sri Lankan spinners created pressure in the middle overs, due to which Cameron Green walked out after scoring only 3 runs, while Tim David returned to the pavilion after scoring 6 runs. Despite this, Australia posted a challenging score of 181 runs.

Nissanka’s storm, kangaroos flew away

The real hero of the match was Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka. Chasing the target of 182 runs, he thrashed the Australian bowlers and scored an unbeaten 100 off just 52 balls. In this explosive innings, Nissanka hit 10 fours and 5 sixes.

History created against Australia

With this century, Nissanka created history. He became the second Sri Lankan batsman to score a century in T20 World Cup history, behind Mahela Jayawardene. Apart from this, he has now become the highest run-scorer in this tournament, with 137 runs to his name in three matches of the group stage.
