‘Opposition scared of drug-free Punjab’, AAP attacks questions raised on Village Defense Committees

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab state media in-charge Baltej Pannu has given a strong reply to the questions being raised by the opposition regarding the swearing-in ceremony of Village Defense Committees organized in Killi Chahlan village of Moga in Moga district. He said that fearing the anti-drug campaign being run by the state government, the opposition parties are creating unnecessary controversies and trying to mislead the public.

What did Pannu say in the statement?

Pannu said in her statement that the Punjab government under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann is making concrete and serious efforts to root out the drug problem. He alleged that the opposition parties are facing problems due to these efforts because now the issues that form the basis of their politics are weakening. Pannu also said that those who are raising questions on the use of government funds today should remember his rule, when the drug trade flourished openly in the state.

Taking aim at the opposition, he said that the public knows and understands everything. He alleged that during the previous governments, instead of stopping the drug trade, it got indirect protection, due to which many families were affected and the future of the youth was in danger. On the contrary, the present government is using public resources to make the society drug-free and provide a secure future to the youth.

Pannu further said that only members of Village Defense Committees participated in the program organized in Moga, in which conscious citizens of different villages took oath to play an active role in the fight against drugs. He expressed confidence that when entire villages and communities join this campaign in the second phase of the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, its impact will be more widespread.

What did Pannu say about Punjab?

He said that the people of Punjab now want freedom from the drug problem and the government is working with full commitment in this direction. Pannu clarified that the government will take strict action against all those who are involved in drug trade or harming the future of the youth. In the end he said that the objective of the state government is not only to eliminate drug addiction but also to make Punjab safe, healthy and prosperous.
