Tariq Rahman’s advisor Humayun Kabir made strong remarks on India, expressed concern over India-Bangladesh relations.

Relations between India and Bangladesh have been witnessing tension since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Nationalist Party President and foreign affairs advisor to future Prime Minister Tariq Rahman Humayun Kabir has made sharp remarks on relations with India. He specifically questioned the role of intelligence agencies in foreign policy and said this decision should be left to elected leaders, referring to India.

Humayun Kabir the wire Said in an interview that it is a wrong practice for intelligence agencies to be involved in foreign policy decisions. He also admitted that relations between Bangladesh and India have deteriorated significantly. “During Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic rule, India’s relations were only with Hasina, not with the people of Bangladesh,” Kabir said.

He also said that India has to take the first step to re-establish its relations with Bangladesh. According to him, a deep hatred and resentment towards India has grown in Bangladesh. The youth and the general public saw India under Sheikh Hasina’s rule as a power that covered up the crimes of Bangladeshi citizens and protected them. Because of this, India’s image has suffered huge damage.

Along with this, Kabir also denied the existence of Awami League in Bangladesh, and said that that party is now extinct. He termed Sheikh Hasina a “terrorist” and alleged that she had killed thousands of people and was living in India after leaving the country. Kabir said, “Sheikh Hasina is being given freedom to carry out criminal and terrorist activities.” He also said that Sheikh Hasina and other members of her party may try to destabilize Bangladesh, and they should keep a close watch on this.

Humayun Kabir said that if both India and Bangladesh work with the mindset of starting afresh, then there can be a possibility of cooperative relations.
