Bugle of ‘war against drugs’ in Moga, Kejriwal-Mann administered the oath of drug-free Punjab

Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Singh Mann addressed thousands of people at the oath-taking ceremony of the Village Defense Committee (VDC) organized under the ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’ campaign in Killi Chahlan village of Moga. During this, both the leaders gave the message of strict action against drug smugglers. Kejriwal said that the governments of Akali Dal, BJP and Congress pushed Punjab into drug addiction, while the Aam Aadmi Party government is fighting a decisive battle to make Punjab drug-free. Despite being unwell, CM Bhagwant Mann arrived at the function and administered the oath to the people to make Punjab a drug-free Punjab.

One year of ‘war against drugs’ campaign

Kejriwal said that this campaign was started a year ago on March 1 under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Initially people had less confidence because previous governments made big claims but no action was visible. He claimed that in the last one year, more than 2,000 kg of drugs were seized, big smugglers were arrested and illegal properties were bulldozed.

Village defense committees will be formed in every pind and ward.

Kejriwal said that now VDCs are being formed in every village and ward across Punjab. Respected people like retired teachers, ex-servicemen, youth and sarpanch are being included in these committees. The first task of the committee is to provide information about those selling and buying drugs.

App arrangement to keep identity secret

To eliminate fear in the minds of people, the Punjab government has prepared a special app. This app is available in the phones of VDC members, through which the information given will be kept completely confidential. Kejriwal said that the information given on the app directly reaches the Chief Minister’s office and immediate action is taken on it.

Emphasis also on treatment and rehabilitation

The committees have also been given the responsibility to take the people suffering from drug addiction to de-addiction centers for treatment. The government has made arrangements for medicines and counselors in de-addiction centres, so that the affected youth can return to normal life.

Focus on sports field and employment

Kejriwal said that modern sports grounds are being built in every village, where activities like cricket, volleyball and football will be held. He said that it is necessary to divert the youth towards sports and employment. Till now the government has claimed to give more than 60 thousand government jobs without bribe or recommendation.

target opponents

Kejriwal said that people will have to go door-to-door and tell which parties have drowned Punjab in drugs. He alleged that the previous governments harmed the youth and future of Punjab.

Focus and awareness campaign on schools

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that in the second phase against drug abuse, special attention will be given to schools. Parents will be made aware through teachers and counselors, so that children do not fall into bad company. He claimed that 63 thousand government jobs have been given in the state and the youth are now getting employment in Punjab itself.

Health plan and strict action

Referring to the Chief Minister Health Scheme which provides free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh, Bhagwant Mann said that the government will bear the entire cost of treatment. He reiterated that properties of drug smugglers are being confiscated and illegal constructions are being demolished. In the end, both the leaders said that the aim of the government is to make Punjab ‘Rangla Punjab’ and a completely drug-free state.
