Relief to Assam Congress: Former President Bhupen Bora withdrew his resignation after the intervention of the high command.

In this sequence, senior leader and former state president Bhupen Bora suddenly announced his resignation on Monday morning and broke 32 years of relations with the Congress, saying that he had left the Congress party for his self-respect. However, in the afternoon Bhupen Bora withdrew his resignation after the intervention of the party high command. This claim has been made by Congress’s Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh.

In fact, after Bhupen Bora’s resignation, several senior Congress leaders including Jitendra Singh and party’s Assam unit president Gaurav Gogoi met Bora at his residence. Meanwhile, Bora told reporters outside his residence that he has sought time from the Congress high command to reconsider his decision.

Gaurav Gogoi said that former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has spoken to Bora and his resignation has not been accepted by the high command. Gogoi said, ‘If Bhupen Bora has been hurt due to some issues in the party, we apologize to him.’

Earlier, while talking to the media, Bhupen Bora had said that he sent his resignation to the central leadership of the party at around 8 am. Bora had said, ‘I have already sent my resignation to the central leadership. This decision was taken to protect self-respect.
Expressing his displeasure with the functioning of the Congress, Bhupen Bora said that the party high command has failed to take timely and important decisions on the matters of the organization. The party is also not able to decide who should come to its rallies and who should not.
Mention of confusion and lack of coordination in Congress
Referring to the confusion and lack of coordination in the Congress, he had said that he has given the most important years of his political life to the Congress. He said, ‘I gave 32 years of my life to the Congress Party.’ He also mentioned his long association and contribution at various levels of the organization. While avoiding taking names of specific leaders, Bhupen Bora continuously pointed towards internal issues and weakness of leadership. He said that it had become difficult to remain in the party.
Questions raised on central leadership
The former state president said that despite expressing concern on several occasions, no meaningful response was received from the top leadership. He said, ‘This is not a sudden decision. I have thought about it carefully. Asked about his political future, Bora said he would take a decision after consulting his supporters and well-wishers. However, he had made it clear that his resignation is final and it is not a hasty step.
