Tawang: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju made a strong attack on Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. He said that Rahul Gandhi is not interested in the smooth functioning of Parliament and some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have taught him that “good days” will come for his party, hence he is disrupting the House.

Rijiju also said that the government will not take any further steps to convince the Congress, as several efforts have already been made for the smooth functioning of the House, but to no avail.

Rijiju’s taunt on Congress

Speaking to the media during his visit to his Lok Sabha constituency Arunachal West, Rijiju said, “Rahul Gandhi is not interested in the functioning of the House. He is only interested in making issues. Some NGOs taught him that your time will come, but their time will not come. Their seats will reduce even more in the next elections.”

The Union Minister said that the government tried several times to convince the Congress for peaceful proceedings in the House, but to no avail. He said that the Congress is completely dejected as the party is continuously losing elections and is trying to improve its position by disrupting the House.

differences in opposition

Rijiju also claimed that the entire opposition in the Lok Sabha is not with the Congress. He said, “Small parties are not with the Congress because they have to make good use of their time. Many small parties are not satisfied with the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. Some parties did not even sign the resolution against the Speaker. During this, Rijiju also said that members of some other political parties are continuously saying that the functioning of the House should continue smoothly. According to him, there was continuous disruption and adjournment by the opposition in the first part of the budget session, due to which the proceedings of the Parliament were affected.

The main reason for the disruption in the Lok Sabha was Rahul Gandhi’s quoting of an article based on excerpts from the unpublished memoir of former Army Chief MM Naravane. However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla forbade him from mentioning this article. After this the opposition committed indiscipline in the House and eight members were suspended.

Furthermore, the opposition moved a no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and accused him of discrimination. The Lok Sabha Speaker recused himself from presiding over the session just hours after the motion was moved by the opposition.
