Afghanistan won against UAE, will it be able to go to Super 8 or not?
The 28th match of T20 World Cup 2026 was played between Afghanistan and UAE. This match took place on 16 February at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This was a very exciting match. Which Afghanistan won by 5 wickets. After losing this match of T20 World Cup 2026, UAE is now almost out of the race to qualify for Super 8.
So far the South African team has qualified from Group D and three teams are in the race for the second place. New Zealand’s claim is strong but if Afghanistan and UAE perform a big miracle then they can qualify. The Canadian team has been eliminated from this group.

Afghanistan got its first victory
The Afghanistan team, which came with great expectations in this tournament, has now got its first victory but this victory has come very late. First, New Zealand defeated them by 5 wickets. In the second match, South Africa broke Afghanistan’s dream by defeating them in two super over matches each. If all the equations are still in place, Afghanistan can go to Super 8, but the possibility of so many equations being fitted is very less.
Afghanistan’s innings
While chasing UAE’s target, Afghanistan lost its first wicket in the very first over. In the first 12 overs, Afghanistan scored 89 runs at the loss of 3 wickets. In the remaining 8 overs the team scored 73 runs at the loss of 2 wickets. After this, Afghanistan scored 162 runs at the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs and won the match by 5 wickets with 4 balls remaining.
For Afghanistan, Ibrahim Zadran scored the highest score of 53 runs, while Azmatullah Omarzai scored 40 not out. For UAE, Junaid Siddiqui and Mohammad Arfan took two wickets each, while Mohammad Jawad Ullah took one wicket.

UAE innings
Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, UAE had a bad start, one wicket fell in the first over itself but the team recovered. In the first 12 overs, UAE scored 98 runs losing 3 wickets. In the remaining 8 overs the team scored 62 runs after losing 6 wickets. Due to which UAE scored a total of 160 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.

For UAE, Sohaib Khan scored the highest score of 68 runs, while Alishan Sharafu scored 40 runs. For Afghanistan, Azmatullah Omarzai took the maximum of four wickets, Mujeeb Ur Rehman took two and Rashid Khan took one wicket.
