Alex Volschenk Replaces Injured Ben Shikongo in Namibia’s T20 World Cup Squad

The 20-year-old Alex Volschenk has been named as the replacement for injured Ben Shikongo for the remainder of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be played in India and Sri Lanka.

Ben Shikongo was ruled out due to a thigh injury during the game against India played at Arun Jaitley Stadium on February 12.

The ICC event technical committee approved Volschenk as his replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Alex Volschenk as a replacement for Ben Shikongo in the Namibia squad,” said the ICC in a statement.

Alex Volschenk has played five T20Is and as many ODIs for Namibia so far and has captained them in 2024 Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

Alex Volschenk has been as their travelling reserve of Namibia T20 World Cup 2026 squad. Under ICC rules, any replacement requires formal clearance from the event technical committee before the player can be officially added to the squad.

The committee consists of Washim Khan (ICC general manager), Gaurav Saxena (ICC general manager – events and corporate communications), Hemang Amin (tournament director) and Shaun Pollock (independent nominee).

Namibia has made their 4th consecutive appearance in the T20 World Cup. Having placed in group A, Namibia has suffered defeats against Netherlands, India and USA.

They are set to play their last group stage game against Pakistan on February 18 at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.

They have been eliminated out of the T20 World Cup 2026 and if they managed to win the game against Pakistan, they will be knocked out of the competition and USA will take an second spot in the Super 8s stage of group A.
