298 newly elected MPs including Rahman took oath, Quran was recited before taking oath.
Dhaka,. Newly elected MPs for the 13th National Parliament of Bangladesh took oath at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. At around 10:42 am local time on Tuesday morning, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to all 298 MPs. The Quran was recited before the swearing-in ceremony.
According to Bangladeshi media reports, the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected MPs was held amid tight security arrangements. More than 1,000 local and special guests from abroad attended the swearing-in ceremony. Along with this, the main ceremony will be held at 4 pm local time, in which President Mohammad Shahabuddin will administer the oath of office to elected MP Tariq Rehman as Prime Minister. In this ceremony, the initial cabinet of Rahman government will also be administered the oath of office and secrecy. It is noteworthy that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is attending the swearing-in ceremony from India’s side.
Did not take oath as a member of the Constitutional Reform Council
According to media reports, BNP members have currently taken oath as Jatiya Sangsad members, which was conducted by the country’s Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasiruddin. Newly elected MPs will not take oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council. In fact, BNP MP Salahuddin Ahmed said that at present no MP has been elected as a member of the Constitutional Reform Council. In reality, it can be implemented only if it is passed constitutionally in the national parliament.
