Imran Khan got the support of 14 captains

These captains have appealed to the Pakistan government to treat Imran Khan fairly. They want that the Pakistani legend should be treated properly and humanely. This petition was started by former Australian captain Greg Chappell.

What did the former captains write in their statements?

All the cricketers have expressed deep concern over the alleged treatment of Imran Khan and the conditions of the jail. He wrote, “We believe that a person of Imran Khan’s stature should be treated with the same respect and humanity as a former national leader and a global sporting icon.”

He has told how Imran is liked all over the world for his inspiring leadership and contribution to cricket. It is further written in the appeal,

“Imran Khan’s contribution to the game is admired across the world. As captain, he led Pakistan to a historic victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, a victory made possible by skill, leadership and sportsmanship that inspired generations across the border.”

He further wrote, “Many of us have played against him, shared the field with him. He is one of the best all-rounders and captains the game has ever seen, who has earned the respect of players, fans and administrators alike.”

“Aside from cricket, Imran Khan served as Prime Minister of Pakistan, leading his country through difficult times. Politically speaking, he has the honor of being democratically elected to his country’s highest office.”

Concluding the appeal, the former captains said that the Pakistani authorities will have to maintain the principles of civility and justice.

“Cricket has long been a bridge between countries. Our shared history on the field reminds us that animosities end when the stumps fall – and respect remains. Imran Khan demonstrated this same spirit throughout his career.”

“We appeal to the authorities to now respect this by maintaining the principles of civility and justice. This appeal has been made in the spirit of sportsmanship and common humanity, without any impact on any legal action.”
