Earlier, 14 former international captains including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev have appealed for good behavior from the Pakistan government.

Speaking to the media, Ganguly said, “I hope that his health improves and he gets proper treatment. He gave recognition to Pakistan on the world stage, first as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team and then as the Prime Minister. So I am sure he should be taken care of and given respect.”

What did the former captains say about Imran Khan?

14 former international captains including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev had appealed to the Pakistan government for better treatment and humane treatment of Imran Khan. In a one-page joint statement, these former captains sought to ensure medical, legal and humanitarian protection for the 1992 World Cup-winning captain. According to the report, Imran Khan has been in jail since 2023 and serious concerns have recently emerged over his health, including reports of his failing eyesight.

The former captains said in their statement that Imran Khan should be given “immediate, adequate and continuous medical care from qualified specialists”. Additionally, humane and dignified conditions of detention must be ensured in line with international standards, including allowing regular family visits. Recent reports regarding his health, especially the serious deterioration in his vision during his detention, have left us with deep concern.

The former captains wrote, “We, as cricketers, understand the values ​​of fair play, respect and dignity. A person of Imran Khan’s stature deserves to be treated with respect. He led Pakistan to a historic victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, epitomizing skill, leadership and sportsmanship.”
