Shri Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Director General, National Informatics Center said that Sovereign AI aims to solve India’s real challenges of health, education, farming and financial inclusion. He believes that the real goal is to provide services to the citizens in their own language and improve their quality of life.

Mr Rishi Bal, CEO of BharatGen, said AI will have to be implemented in a phased manner, especially in sensitive areas like governance, civil services and finance. He stressed that a shared digital framework, common models, inference architecture and secure components should be created so that startups and innovators can develop faster and secure solutions.

Shri Rajeev Ratan Chetwani, Director of Information Systems and Management Directorate of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said that for them Sovereign AI is a strategic need. He clarified that AI systems used in strategic areas should be able to work offline and without dependence on the internet. Also, the models should be transparent and auditable, so that the credibility of the data is maintained. He also said that AI can revolutionize farming, disaster management, climate forecasting and urban planning by using India’s vast geospatial data.
