The match had to be canceled without even a single ball being bowled.
The ground staff of Pallekele Stadium came to the ground about 55 minutes after the scheduled time of 3 pm and kept working for the next 90 minutes to remove water from the cover, then the sky became cloudy and the staff had to return to the ground. The match was abandoned at 5:30 pm local time without a single ball being bowled.
