In this conversation, she not only expressed her opinion on her first relationship, but also made it clear how she views love.

Recalling her youthful days, Neena Gupta opened up on her relationship with former West Indies cricket legend Vivian Richards. He said that there was a deep affection between the two and the time spent together was very beautiful. However, the marriage did not take place as both of them had different careers and countries.

Neena raised the question that she is often asked why the marriage did not take place, whereas why this question is not asked to Vivian Richards. He clearly stated that the circumstances were such that either he would have to leave India or Vivian would have to leave cricket—and neither option was possible.

“I don’t understand anything like love.”

When she was asked in the podcast whether she believed in love, she candidly said, “To tell you the truth, there is nothing like love and affection. If I have truly loved anyone, it is my daughter.”

Neena also said that the assumptions made in society about relationships are not always the truth. According to him, need, responsibility and companionship are more important in life.

Second marriage: love or need?

Talking about her second marriage, Neena Gupta said that she does not understand love in the traditional sense. He admitted that a companion is needed in life, especially at a certain stage of life. He admitted that many times marriage is done more for need and stability than for love.

He said that it is more important to make one’s life balanced and safe than to show it to the society.
