Rubio reminded the Hungarian PM, Trump had given your country exemption from the ban for one year.
Marco Rubio and Hungary’s foreign minister sign civil-nuclear cooperation agreement announced by Trump. Rubio tried to explain to America and one of the countries supporting President Trump how the US took special decisions in their favor.
Rubio said the US last year gave Hungary a one-year exemption from the US ban on using Russian oil and gas because the relationship between Trump and Prime Minister Viktor Orban was strong.
“It was because of that personal relationship, because we want this economy to grow, we want this country to do well. It’s in the interest of our country, especially as long as you are the prime minister and the leader of this country.”
Indeed, Hungary has maintained its dependence on Russian energy since Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine in 2022, drawing criticism from many EU and NATO allies. In beautifully subdued words, Rubio mentioned America’s cooperation and the West’s habit of rejecting them.
The US Foreign Minister was also asked questions regarding Iran and China. In which the US Secretary of State admitted that it cannot be ignored and it would be madness to do so.
Marco Rubio tried his best in Hungary to portray President Donald Trump’s influence, his vision of establishing peace and that he is the best dealer in the world. Jointly addressed the media with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and also answered complex questions.
Asked about enmity and friendship with China, Rubio said, “We are not asking any country in the world to isolate itself from anyone else. We understand that every country in the world has to deal with the reality of its geography, its economy, its history, and the challenges of its future. We will obviously share our concerns about some things with partners and friends.”
After this he said on his trade and relations with China that the President of the United States is going to China in April. Why? Because China is a big country, it has over a billion people, it has the second largest economy in the world, and they have nuclear weapons. It would be madness for the United States and China not to have a relationship and not to interact with each other.
Then he admitted that there are differences between the two countries but they are such that they can be managed.
Earlier, the Hungarian PM spoke from the stage on the agreements made during the era of President Trump and the improving relations between the two countries. Said that America made 17 investments in Hungary which was important. Along with this, he described this new friendship as the beginning of the golden era for both the countries.
After him, Rubio also spoke about America’s open-mindedness and wish for peace and stability in the world, describing it as the beginning of the golden era. Rubio also mentioned efforts to contain the Russia-Ukraine war. He claimed that we are the only country that can clearly bring both sides to the negotiating table.
At the same time, he described Iran as a fanatically religious country which is very difficult to deal with. But admitted that ‘but we are trying.’
