5 out of 20 teams in T20 World Cup were eliminated, 5 reached Super 8, difficult path for Pakistan and Australia
New Delhi. The league phase of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka has reached an interesting turn after 10 days. A total of 30 matches have been played and a total of 40 matches are to be played in the league. Till now the position of only a few groups has become clear in the Points Table. Out of 20 teams, 5 teams have been eliminated from the tournament and 5 teams have been successful in making it to the Super 8. There is a tough fight going on for three places among the remaining 10 teams, which include teams like Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan.
In Group A, the Indian team has secured the Super 8 ticket, while Namibia is out of the tournament after losing all three matches. America is in second place, which won two out of four matches. Pakistan finished third by winning two out of three matches, while Netherlands finished fourth by winning one match.
The situation of Group B is also like Group A. Sri Lanka has confirmed its place in the Super 8 by winning three matches, while Oman is out after losing all three matches. At second place is Zimbabwe, which won the first two matches. Australia is at third position with one win from three and Ireland is also at fourth position with one win.
The situation in Group C is completely clear. West Indies and England have qualified for the Super 8s and will finish the group stage in first and second place respectively. Scotland is at third place, Italy is at fourth and Nepal is at fifth, all of whom are out of the tournament.
In Group D, currently only South Africa has confirmed its ticket to Super 8. The remaining four teams are still alive in the league. If New Zealand beats Canada today, they will also make it to the Super 8. In this situation Afghanistan, UAE and Canada will be out of the tournament. If Canada pulls off an upset, the points table will get more exciting.
