Famous singer dies of brain stroke

Veteran Oriya music singer Geeta Patnaik passes away

The flow of bad news in the entertainment industry is not stopping. Only two months have passed since the beginning of the new year, but many sad incidents have already come to light. Recently another sad news has come from the Odia music industry. Noted singer Geeta Patnaik passed away on Sunday evening.

Illness and last moments

73-year-old Geeta Patnaik’s health deteriorated during a show on February 12. He suffered a brain stroke, after which he was admitted to a private hospital. Due to her serious condition, she remained on ventilator. However, despite all the efforts of the doctors, he died at around 6:18 pm on Sunday evening.

Funerals and obituaries

Geeta’s last rites were performed in Cuttack on Monday. His brother-in-law Pradosh Patnaik confirmed his death. According to the information, doctors had declared him brain dead. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik also expressed grief over his demise.

Geeta Patnaik’s musical journey

Geeta Patnaik’s career spanned five decades, in which she worked with many artists and composers. He is especially known for the songs he sang with Odia singer Akshay Mohanty. There was a wonderful simplicity in his voice, which made him famous in Odisha. Many popular songs like ‘Phur Kina Udigala Bani’ from the Odia film ‘Jajabar’ are also heard in his voice.

Respect and contribution

Geeta’s dedication towards her music entitles her to many state level awards. He lent his melodious voice not only for films but also for non-film songs and bhajans. His contribution will always be remembered.

Now Geeta Patnaik has gone to a world from where it is not possible for anyone to return. But his contribution to the world of Odia film and music will always be remembered.
