BNP chief Tariq Rahman takes oath as PM of Bangladesh, 25 ministers and 24 ministers of state included in new cabinet
Dhaka, 17 February. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tariq Rahman was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh at a ceremony held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sansad Bhavan on Tuesday. President Mohammad Shahabuddin administered the oath to him at around 4.15 pm local time.
Actually, Bangladesh has got a male PM after many years. Before this, Tariq Rehman’s mother, late Begum Khaleda Zia, and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina, who left the country and took refuge in India after the coup in August 2024, have held power in the country for decades.

Along with Tariq Rahman, 25 BNP MPs took oath as cabinet ministers while 24 newly elected MPs took oath as ministers of state.
It is noteworthy that in the recent 13th general elections, BNP won 209 out of 297 seats and achieved more than two-third majority. Right-wing Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats. The Awami League, led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was barred from contesting the elections.
Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasiruddin administered the oath to all 297 newly elected members of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
