Prime Minister Modi meets French President Macron in Mumbai, discusses giving a new dimension to India-France relations

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron at Maharashtra Lok Bhawan on Tuesday. The meeting took place as part of the French President’s visit to India, which is part of his fourth visit to India.

Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by the Governor of Maharashtra and Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, at Lok Bhawan. Giving information about this meeting on Twitter, the Governor wrote, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Maharashtra Lok Bhawan, Mumbai, where he met the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron.” Both the leaders also hugged each other after meeting.

The meeting is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between India and France, with talks likely to take place on issues such as trade, defense cooperation, and strategic partnership.

Earlier, President Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron paid tribute to the victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks, reflecting the anti-terrorism partnership between the two countries and the shared commitment to democratic values.

Welcoming the French President to India during this visit, Prime Minister Modi said, “India welcomes you to your visit and we are confident that our discussions will take the cooperation between the two countries to new heights.”

The visit will continue till February 19, during which the heads of both the countries will launch the “Year of Innovation 2026” campaign, which will further progress the India-France strategic partnership.
