Death threat to CM Bhagwant Mann from polonium

Pro-Khalistan organization Khalistan National Army (KNA) has sent an email to the administration threatening that CM Mann has been infected with polonium by the heirs of Bhai Dilawar Singh. The organization warned that if CM Mann survives, his condition will be like that of former Punjab CM Beant Singh.

CM Bhagwant Mann, admitted in Mohali’s Fortis Hospital, is currently safe. Along with the threat, Khalistan National Army also warned 16 schools about bomb blasts. Mohali police and administration took immediate action and increased the security of hospitals and schools.

Why was this threat given?

It was said in the email that, along with targeting CM Mann, Khalistan National Army warned of keeping the schools closed. It was written in the threat that this attack would be carried out to take revenge against the supporters of Khalistan Referendum. Along with the name of the organization, names of some suspicious people have also been included in the mail.

Mohali SP City Dilpreet Singh confirmed that a threatening email has been received. He said, “We are verifying everything. The Chief Minister is safe in Fortis Hospital. A complete investigation of the hospital has been done and the force will be deployed in the hospital till further orders from seniors.”

Who is Dilawar Singh?

Dilawar Singh mentioned in the email is the suicide bomber who killed the then CM Beant Singh in a human bomb attack on the Chandigarh Secretariat on August 31, 1995. He was given the title of martyr in 2012.

Who was Beant Singh?

His martyrdom is remembered as a symbol of the struggle to restore peace in Punjab.
