Ruckus due to ‘boy-girl’ comparison in budget debate: Politics heated up in Rajasthan Assembly, opposition surrounded
Jaipur. During the discussion on the state budget in the Rajasthan Assembly, a statement by BJP MLA Bahadur Singh Koli created a political storm. Speaking on the budget, he compared the budget of the BJP government to the “birth of a boy” and the budget of the former Congress government to the “birth of a girl”, after which controversy broke out from the House to the political circles.
What did Bahadur Singh Koli say?
Taking part in the budget debate on Monday evening, MLA Bahadur Singh Koli said that the budget of the BJP government is for the youth, whereas the budget of the previous government was for the elderly. He taunted that his government had “given birth to a boy” in the very first budget and would do the same in the future too, whereas when Ashok Gehlot was the Chief Minister, the last budget was like “giving birth to a girl”, hence Congress is sitting in the opposition today.
There was a stir in the House after his comment.
Strong opposition from Congress-
On Tuesday, Congress MLAs lodged a strong protest in the House. Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully called it promoting gender discrimination and extremely objectionable.
He said that in today’s era the thinking of differentiating between sons and daughters is shameful. Julie demanded a clear stand from the ruling party and said that giving such an analogy on a serious subject like the budget is inappropriate and insensitive.
Said in clarification – ‘This is the expression of our Braj language’-
As the controversy escalated, Bahadur Singh Koli told the media that his statement had been misrepresented. He claimed that he had only given the example of a “good budget” and this was in his Braj Bhasha style.
However, the opposition is making this statement an issue by linking it to women’s respect and is calling it against the dignity of the House. At present this statement remains the center of discussion and debate in the politics of the state.
