Android 17 Plans and Supported Devices List

Xiaomi is again in the news because of its next software update. A new report says the company has started working on HyperOS 4. This version is expected to be based on Android 17. There’s also leaked information about which phones might receive the HyperOS update, an unofficial list consisting of Samsung, LG, and HTC devices (along with some Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices) that have yet to be verified as compatible with HyperOS according to Xiaomi’s internal testing that is still in progress.

HyperOS is the software from Xiaomi that will take over MIUI slowly. The main goal is to have one coherent software ecosystem that will provide good functionality on all Xiaomi devices, such as phones, tablets, etc. As updates are being released for Hyper OS, they continue to work towards making the software smaller and faster, and reducing the required storage.

The development of Hyper OS 4 has reportedly already begun, according to sources at HyperOS Insider and Huawei Central. This is interesting because Android 16 has not even reached all devices yet. Still, Xiaomi seems to be planning.

Xiaomi Phones That May Get HyperOS 4

A variety of Xiaomi‘s new flagship devices are likely to support HyperOS 4, based on their Android 17 software base. These devices include all models in the Xiaomi 15 lineup, including the Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra, as well as all models in the Xiaomi 14 series, including the Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Pro, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Chances are good also that every other division of the earlier versions of last year’s Xiaomi 13 family (Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Ultra, Xiaomi 13T, Xiaomi 13T Pro) should also qualify to be upgraded.

Redmi Models in the List

Users of Redmi are in for something good. According to the report, the Redmi K line has been indicated as well as being eligible for a potential update. This includes the Redmi K80, K70, K70 Pro, K70 Ultra, K60, and K60 Pro.

Also included in the report were potential updates for users of the Redmi Note line. The Redmi Note 14, Redmi Note 14 Pro, & Redmi Note 14 Pro+ may have firmware improvements available for download, and if your phone is from the Redmi Note 13 series, it too can potentially access an updated version of its Operating System (O/S). Due to how well these products sell, it would be a positive experience for many consumers.

POCO Devices Expected to Receive the Update

The smartphones manufactured by POCO that are leaked for having HyperOS 4 will be on the same list of smartphones as those leaked for HyperOS 4, and both the POCO F5 and F5 Pro will receive an upgrade to run on HyperOS 4 when updates become available.

It is also possible that the POCO X6/X6 Pro and M6 Pro will also be receiving HyperOS 4 with their respective updates. Since many POCO devices share hardware with Redmi models, their inclusion is not surprising.

What About Older Phones?

There are a few older Xiaomi and Redmi devices that do not appear in this initial list; however, if your device was released somewhere around 3-4 years ago, you shouldn’t expect to see it get an update to Android 17. Mi typically provides 2-3 updates only to its midrange devices, with more updates available on its flagship devices.

As a result of this information, users of older Redmi Note or Xiaomi 12 series devices may not receive an upgrade to this version of Android 17. Still, this is not the final list. Things can change before the official rollout.

When Will HyperOS 4 be released?

There is no official date yet. If Xiaomi follows its usual pattern, testing will continue this year. The stable version may roll out after Google officially releases Android 17.

Xiaomi has stated that flagships will get these updates first, and so Flagship devices will be getting priority, and then once all Flagship devices have been updated, more updates will be released to all Redmi and POCO devices, but not all devices at once, because the rollout will be phased by region.

As things stand, there is a good indication of what Xiaomi hopes to do with Android 17; However without any confirmation from Xiaomi yet, users will need to wait patiently for confirmation. We also should have further information on HyperOS 4 as it continues to be developed over the next several months.
