This cricketer announced retirement between T20 World Cup 2026, know when will be his last match
T20 World Cup 2026 has reached its exciting phase and the group stage matches are almost at an end. Meanwhile, former Canadian captain Navneet Dhaliwal has announced his retirement from international cricket. 37-year-old Dhaliwal announced his decision after the defeat against New Zealand. With this defeat, the Canadian team was out of the tournament. However, the team will play its last match against Afghanistan in the group stage, which will also be the last international match of Dhaliwal’s career.
Had a wonderful 11 year career
Navneet Dhaliwal made his international debut for Canada in 2015. He was also the captain of the team during his 11-year career. Currently, he is the highest run-scorer for Canada in T20 International. He has scored 1305 runs in 48 T20 International matches at an average of over 32. Apart from this, he captained the team in 29 T20 and 4 ODI matches, in which Canada got 21 wins.
‘The decision was already taken’
On his retirement, Dhaliwal said, “I had already taken this decision. It has been a matter of pride to play for the country for more than 11 years. The match against Afghanistan will be my last international match. Qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup and scoring runs in the opening match was one of the most special moments of my career, especially when I also became the captain of the team.”
What is the plan next?
He further said that he is planning to make a career in the field of coaching, but not at the national level. His main focus will be on the development of young players. Dhaliwal’s contribution to Canadian cricket has been significant and his retirement is being considered as the end of an era for the team.
