Rajya Sabha elections announced; What will be the equation of numerical strength for Mahayuti and Mavia?
The election schedule for the vacant seats in Rajya Sabha has been announced. This election will be held as the tenure of the members ends in April 2026. Voting will be held for 37 Rajya Sabha seats, out of which seven seats are from Maharashtra. According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the last date for filing nominations has been fixed as March 5. After this, the nominations will be scrutinized on March 6. Candidates have been given time till March 9 to withdraw their nominations.
The voting process will take place on March 16 from 9 am to 4 pm. Counting of votes will begin at 5 pm on the same day and results will be declared. This election for seven seats of Maharashtra is considered important from political point of view. The tenure of the current MPs is going to end on April 2.
In Maharashtra, the tenure of Sharad Pawar group’s Fauzia Khan, Sharad Pawar, Thackeray group’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress’ Rajni Patil, BJP’s Bhagwat Karad, Dhairyasheel Patil and Ramdas Athawale is about to end. At present Mahavikas Aghadi has four MPs, while BJP and Athawale together have three MPs. All of them will retire on April 2.
What will be the equation of numerical strength for Rajya Sabha?
There will be a quota of 37 MLAs to win one seat. At present there are 10 MLAs from Sharad Pawar group, 16 from Congress and 20 from Thackeray group, i.e. 46 MLAs from the three parties together. MGP and Shekap have one member each. If Mahavikas Aghadi stands together and both of them support the candidate of Mahavikas Aghadi, then one MP will definitely win the election. But in such a situation it will be necessary to decide who should be given this one seat from Mahavikas Aghadi. After completion of the quota of 37 votes, MVA will have only 11 votes left. If 2 MLAs of Samajwadi Party and 1 MLA of MIM also support, there will be 14 additional votes.
Comparatively, the position of Mahayuti is stronger. BJP has 131 MLAs, Shinde Sena has 57, Nationalist Congress (Ajit Pawar group) has 40, making a total of 228 MLAs. Due to the support of seven more MLAs, this number will increase to 235. With this, their six candidates will definitely be selected in Rajya Sabha. If BJP supports the seventh candidate, there will be a contest between Mahavikas Aghadi and Mahayuti.
