Legendary Bowler Glenn McGrath Disappointed With Australia’s Exit From The T20 World Cup
Australia’s journey in the T20 World Cup 2026 has ended. Due to crushing defeats against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in the group stage, Australia had to be eliminated from the first stage of the tournament itself. After the Australian team’s exit, former cricketers have criticized the team’s disappointing performance. Former veteran fast bowler Glenn McGrath has said that the aura of the Australian team has ended.
Speaking to the Morning Herald, Glenn McGrath said, “We raised concerns at the beginning of this World Cup. The results of the tournament are not surprising. The dominance of the Australian team has ended.” Glenn McGrath also criticized the selectors for including Cameron Green in the World Cup squad.
He said, “The selectors had given Cameron Green a place in the team, giving priority to Steve Smith, but if he is not able to bowl then how does he get a place in the team.” Cameron Green was selected for the World Cup as an all-rounder, but he flopped with the bat and stayed away from bowling altogether.
Green has scored 24 runs in three matches of the group stage. This also includes a zero in one match. At the same time, he could bowl only 7 balls in three matches. Since then, questions have started being raised on his selection. Jason Gillespie, who was once the backbone of Australian fast bowling along with Glenn McGrath, also questioned the selection of Cameron Green and Cooper Connolly in the World Cup team.
“They did not live up to the trust that the selectors had placed in Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green,” he said.
