Take care of heart health, adopt these 5 habits!

Health Desk. The heart is the most important organ of our body and its health is the main basis of our overall health. Due to today’s fast-paced lifestyle, irregular eating habits and stress, the risk of heart diseases has increased. But by adopting the right lifestyle and regularizing some easy habits, you can keep your heart strong and healthy.

1. Balanced diet

Diet is the biggest weapon to keep the heart healthy. Include fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts and foods high in omega‑3 fatty acids such as fish and flax seeds in your diet. Reduce the intake of fried foods, processed foods and excess salt.

2. Regular exercise

At least 150 minutes a week of light to moderate aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, running, bicycling or swimming, strengthens the heart muscle and improves blood flow. Blood pressure and cholesterol level also remains controlled through exercise.

3. Control stress

Stress and anxiety directly affect heart health. Keep your mind calm by meditation, yoga, pranayam or meditation for 10‑15 minutes daily. Positive thinking and balanced lifestyle helps in reducing stress.

4. Avoid smoking and alcohol

Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can damage the heart arteries and increase the risk of heart attack. If you want to keep your heart healthy, then avoid them completely.

5. Get regular health checkups done

For early detection of heart diseases, it is important to get blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels checked from time to time. Regular check‑up as per doctor’s advice helps in protecting the heart.
