What is changing?

Users have to go to a separate status tab to see updates shared by their contacts. The new layout being tested will show status updates directly above the chat screen.

This means that users will not have to switch between tabs again and again. The idea behind this change is simple — faster access in fewer steps. This will especially benefit those users who frequently check status updates throughout the day.

How will the new feature work?

When users open the Chat tab, status updates from contacts they frequently interact with will appear at the top.

A horizontal scroll bar below this section will show the latest statuses of other contacts.

Users can swipe through these updates just like they do on the current status section.

If a contact’s status is muted or hidden, it will not be visible, so there will be no change to privacy settings.

The purpose of this integration is to provide a smoother experience by combining chats and status updates.

Currently in testing phase

It is available only for Android beta users.

Especially, those who are using version 2.26.6.9.

Regular users will not see any change as of now.

The company may make changes to the design and layout based on feedback during testing. If it is successful, this feature may be rolled out globally in a future update.
