Galgotias University Row: Uproar over Chinese Robodog in AI Summit, order to exclude Galgotias University from the exhibition
News India Live, Digital Desk: There was a stir in the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ organized at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi when a big controversy arose over a robotic dog (Robodog). Galgotias University has been accused of presenting a commercial robot made in China as its ‘indigenous invention’. The controversy escalated so much that according to government sources, the university has been ordered to immediately vacate its stall and move out of the expo. How did the ‘Orion’ vs ‘Unitree’ controversy start? The whole matter started when a video of a professor of Galgotias University went viral on social media. In the video, she was explaining the features of a robodog named ‘Orion’, claiming that it has been developed by the university’s ‘Center of Excellence’. However, tech experts and netizens immediately recognized that it is actually the ‘Go2’ model of China’s famous robotics company Unitree, which is easily available in the market for around Rs 2-3 lakh. After this, serious allegations were leveled against the university of presenting ‘Made in China’ technology as an Indian innovation. University’s clarification: “We never made any claim.” As the controversy deepened, Galgotias University issued an official statement and gave clarification. The university said: “We have not created this robodog and have never claimed so. It is a tool purchased from Unitri, which we consider a ‘mobile classroom’ so that our students can learn with modern technology. Our aim is to motivate the students.” However, ‘X Community Note’ on social media has termed this claim of the university as misleading, because in the viral video, the staff can be clearly heard calling it a product of the university. Politics also heated up, the opposition took a political turn by marking the incident. Have also taken. Congress and opposition leaders have reacted sharply to this. Rahul Gandhi termed the summit as a ‘disorganized PR spectacle’ and said that Chinese products are being promoted instead of Indian talent. The Chinese media has also taken a dig at India regarding this controversy, due to which the matter has become even more sensitive. What is the specialty of Unitree Go2? The robot about which there is all this ruckus is equipped with 4D LiDAR sensor. It is capable of climbing stairs, walking on rough roads and understanding human commands through AI. It is used for research and education all over the world.
