New Delhi. Sarpanch Harpinder Singh was shot dead by unknown assailants at a wedding ceremony in Tarn Taran, Punjab. Harpinder Singh was the current sarpanch of Aam Aadmi Party of village Thathiyan Mahanta. He had come to attend a wedding ceremony at Sidhu Farm on the Bathinda-Tarn Taran National Highway when three to four attackers started firing on the sarpanch, killing him on the spot. His uncle’s son Germanjeet Singh was also shot. He has been admitted to the hospital in a seriously injured condition, where he is undergoing treatment.
This incident, which happened in broad daylight, created an outcry at the wedding ceremony. Hearing the sound of bullets, people started running here and there. It is being told that when the Sarpanch was shot, he was dancing with his acquaintances. A total of four bullets were hit in his head and stomach. The footage of CCTV cameras installed in the farm house is being scrutinized to identify the attackers. Different police teams have been formed to arrest the attackers. The body of the Sarpanch has been sent for post-mortem. Earlier on February 6, Aam Aadmi Party sarpanch Gurbej Singh was shot dead in Cheema Khurd village of Tarn Taran.
