ED action on Jayasuriya, property worth Rs 39 lakh seized; What is the matter after all?

Taking major action in a case related to money laundering, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has temporarily attached the immovable property worth about Rs 39 lakh of famous Malayalam film industry actor Jayasurya. According to news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), this action has been taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

What is the whole matter?

The investigation pertains to an alleged online investment fraud which was being run through an online bidding application called ‘Save Box’. It is alleged that through this platform, huge amount of money was collected from people in the name of investment and later the investors had to suffer losses. According to sources, this alleged scheme was being operated by a person named Swati Rahim. The ED investigation is based on at least four FIRs lodged at Thrissur East police station. Based on these FIRs, the central agency started investigation from the angle of money laundering.

Interrogation of Jayasuriya and his wife

It is reported that in December 2025, ED had interrogated Jayasuriya and his wife in this matter. The investigating agency is trying to find out to what extent the actor’s role was in this scheme. According to sources, Swati Rahim had allegedly paid Jayasuriya in exchange for promoting him as the brand ambassador of this investment scheme. The ED is now investigating whether the amount given to the actor was part of the proceeds of crime.

How much property was confiscated?

ED has issued an interim order to temporarily attach immovable properties worth approximately Rs 39.01 lakh. This action has been taken under the provisions of PMLA, under which transfer or sale of property is prohibited until the investigation is completed.

What next?

Investigation in the matter is still going on. If the ED finds sufficient evidence that the property has been acquired from illegal money, it can be permanently confiscated. At the same time, the actor or other concerned parties will get an opportunity to clarify their position and make a legal defence. This matter is also raising questions on the credibility of online platforms related to entertainment and investment. There is a possibility of more revelations in this case as the investigation progresses.
