Young Indian opener Abhishek Sharma suddenly came into limelight during the T20 World Cup 2026 match against Netherlands. On February 18, he came to bat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad wearing fast bowler Mohammed Siraj’s jersey instead of his own. After which the cricket fans expected that Abhishek would play a big innings, but he was out without opening the account. This raised questions as to why Abhishek came on the field wearing Siraj’s jersey instead of his own.

However, former England captain Nasir Hussain and Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar, who were commentating during the match, told on-air that the real reason was quite simple. According to reports, Abhishek had forgotten his kit in the hotel. Some reports also said that his jersey was in the dressing room, but there was a delay in bringing it on the field before the start of the Indian innings. So to save time he had to wear his teammate’s jersey.
