Galgotias University apologized, told about Chinese robotic dog in AI Summit – how the mistake happened

New Delhi, 18 February. Private sector Galgotias University on Wednesday apologized for creating ‘confusion’ over the demonstration of a Chinese-made ‘robotic dog’ during the ‘India AI Impact Summit’. The university said that one of its representatives present at its pavilion did not have ‘correct information’ about this robotic product and described the robotic dog made in China as an innovation of the university, which was not correct.

The controversy started when Neha Singh, professor of the Department of Communication at Galgotias University, showed a robotic dog ‘Orion’ to ‘DD News’ channel on Tuesday and said that it has been developed by the ‘Centre of Excellence of Galgotias University’.

Robot Unity GO2 which was made by a Chinese company

As soon as this video circulated, social media users pointed out that this robot was actually Unitri GO2, which is made by Chinese company Unitri Robotics and is commonly used in research and education around the world. After the controversy over this matter, the university was instructed to vacate the stall allotted for the AI Summit.

University spokesperson explained the reason for the mistake

A spokesperson for the university said, ‘We would like to apologize for the confusion created at the AI Summit. One of our representatives present at the pavilion had wrong information. He had no idea where this robot was made. In his excitement to be on camera, he gave false information even though he was not authorized to speak to the media. “We had no intention of portraying the innovation in a bad light.”

Earlier, Information Technology Secretary S Krishnan said that the government does not want any exhibitor to show things which are not theirs. “We do not want this kind of display of products,” he said on the organizers’ instructions to Galgotias University to remove its stall.
