Awareness campaign to overcome water scarcity, National Water Mission and Ministry of Jal Shakti’s ‘Jal Vani’ initiative launched
Grows in India water shortagepolluted rivers and erratic water supply are becoming serious problems. In this background, National Water Mission and Ministry of Jal Shakti have started the awareness campaign ‘Jal Vani’. In this nationwide campaign, with the help of ‘Mirchi’, citizens are being urged to save water through small daily actions. The main message of this campaign is that simple habits such as timely closing of household faucets, water recycling, rainwater harvesting can bring about a big change.
The initiative is supported by singer Mohit Chauhan, actress Taapsee Pannu and director Anubhav Sinha. Through them, efforts are being made to spread the message of water conservation to a wider level.
Yabati singer Mohit Chauhan said, “Water is such a thing that we take water seriously when we realize its scarcity. Being a part of ‘Jal Vani’, I was able to remind people that every action counts. Turning off a tap, saving every drop or paying attention to the wastage of water around us. These small actions create big awareness. I hope my voice inspires people to stop and think and take action. I am happy that Jal Shakti Ministry and Mirchi have taken up this initiative.” Actress Taapsee Pannu also stressed on collective responsibility, saying, “Water conservation is not just a matter of policies, but a personal responsibility for everyone. Every drop we save today is a promise for future generations.”
A different and thought-provoking experiment was conducted in Delhi under the ‘Jal Vani’ campaign. ‘Mirchi Jal Vani’ campaign is being implemented in collaboration with National Water Mission and Ministry of Jal Shakti. In this campaign, RJ Naved deliberately left a tap leaking in a crowded place. Many people ignored it, but some stopped and turned off the faucet. For this small but important act they were honored as ‘Jal Warriors’. This experiment highlighted how awareness can be seen even in small daily actions.
Water warriors who participated in the campaign said that India’s water problems are caused by years of over-consumption, pollution and neglect of nature’s limits. It is not only a question of water availability, but also of people’s thinking and responsibility. Government can plan, make rules; But everyone should be aware that water is a limited and common property of all.
Through digital content created through RJ, the campaign is reaching out especially to the urban youth. Through ‘Jal Vani’, the message is being given to the citizens that water is a precious resource and it is everyone’s responsibility to conserve it.
